Those who are lawful permanent residents or resident aliens may qualify for benefits under the recent stimulus package.

Stimulus check will be distributed to everyone who:

• Filed taxes in 2018 OR 2019 with a valid social security number AND
• Is either an LPR or a "resident alien," defined as a non-citizen who resided in the US for 31 days in 2019 and a total of 183 days in 2018 and 2019

• Couples that filed jointly who are mixed status, i.e. one spouse has a social security number and the other does not, would not qualify for stimulus checks for anyone in the family and cannot get the $500 child payment.

The stimulus package includes those with pending applications, DACA recipients etc. who have social security numbers and have filed their taxes.

The IRS will start sending checks out immediately but it might not be too late to file taxes for folks who did not file in 2018.
